Last year my dad learned that his cancer returned. My first thoughts were that he’ll get through it. He already conquered so much like heart disease.
But we soon learnt that it spread throughout his lungs and for the first time surgery wasn’t an option. Immunotherapy was the only option. It’s still in clinical trials, but fortunately available here in Pretoria.
A whole body scan then reveal it spread to his brain, where the immunotherapy won’t work.
In February 2022, the tumor in his brain was surgically removed. But wasn’t a success: He struggled with basic things like speech and sitting up straight.
After a month in hospital, he died.
I’m glad I was available to support not only him, but also the other people in his life during this time.
I will miss him for his can do attitude.
